I Pasted the Same 6 Lines Every Morning, One File Cut 3 Minutes to 5 Seconds

How I replaced a daily copy-paste ritual with a single Claude Code slash command file. Three steps, from creating a folder to running it.

I Kept Typing the Same Thing Every Day

Every morning I copied a 6-line instruction into my bot, something like: check yesterday's log, summarize only the failures in 3 lines, and ask me about anything you can't fix yourself. It took 3 minutes a day, which adds up to over an hour a month. One day I missed a line and the bot answered something completely off.

The Fix: A Slash Command File

In Claude Code, if you put a markdown file in a specific folder, its filename becomes a command. No coding needed.

1. Create a `.claude/commands` folder inside your working folder.

2. Inside it, create `morning.md` and paste in the instruction you normally copy.

3. Type `/morning` in the Claude Code input box.

Check yesterday's log.

Summarize only the failed items in 3 lines.

Do not fix anything you cannot fix yourself. Ask me instead.

Target date: $ARGUMENTS

If you add text after the command, like `/morning October 18`, it drops into the `$ARGUMENTS` spot.

Results

• 3 minutes of copy-paste became 5 seconds of typing.

• Zero missed instructions over two weeks.

• Short English names are the easiest to type.

Tip: Keep this folder in git, and the same commands show up on your Windows device and Mac mini after a sync.
