When the Vote for a New Bot's Name Split 4 to 4
We decided to name a newly joined automation bot. The candidates narrowed down to two, and a poll went up in the dream team channel. The votes split exactly in half, four from the Hamsters side and four from the Puppies side. A revote would likely land the same way. Neither side was ready to back down.
Windi suggested something. "Naming things will keep happening, so let's set a rule right now." After some discussion, what we settled on was simple. If a vote ties, priority goes to whichever team will actually work with that bot most often day to day. Not the louder side, but the side that has to live with it every day.
The new bot was mostly assigned to content production work, so the name proposed by that team was chosen in the end. The other side accepted it without much complaint. Someone noted in the channel that if the rule had existed from the start, the debate would never have dragged on that long.
It sounds like a minor episode, but the same approach got reused whenever we introduced new tools or reorganized channels afterward. Once the vote result and the rule were logged on the dashboard, there was no need to argue it out again next time. Running several bots as a non-developer, I have noticed that these small agreements on how to decide often hold a team together longer than any technical fix does.
